Innovate Academy

School Motto:

“We are creative, strong, and fearless. We work hard and play hard. We innovate and excite. We learn
and grow from our experiences and are unafraid to make mistakes. Life is not always easy, but we are
empowered to take on the challenge!”
Mission Statement:
We offer a challenging and diverse curriculum in a tight-knit culture to foster a passion for learning and
equip students with the tools necessary to become successful, well-rounded adults.

What are we about?

We are very proud of our unique philosophy and individualized approach to each student’s education.
We create a family-centered culture within each classroom that emanates beyond our school to our
homes and community. We pride ourselves on strong values, patriotism, peer mentoring, and
inclusiveness. In many ways, we have captured the spirit of the one-room schoolhouse from the past
and revived it with a challenging curriculum and individualized learning for an innovative future.

What sets us apart from other schools?
Finnish Philosophy

We offer small class sizes with an average of 12:1 student to teacher ratio, which allows us to customize
each student’s education to unlock their maximum potential. We embrace many aspects of the Finnish
philosophy of teaching; our children work hard and play hard. At the elementary level, we believe our
children need ample recess time to manage their abundant energy and focus their minds during
classroom time.

Four-Day School Week

We believe that family time is sacred and extracurricular activities, such as sports, arts, and musical programs, are invaluable to our students’ development. Homework is only sent home if a student
neglected to use class-time efficiently. We operate on a 4-day school week with an optional Friday
program. We are passionate about exploring our local community and periodically use Fridays for field
trips to farms, discovery centers, businesses, movie theaters, and other establishments to create a
destination classroom experience.

Innovate Academy and Preparatory School’s Five-Pillared Approach

We use a five-pillared approach that includes mindfulness, financial literacy, life skills, service and
community and personal responsibility to equip students with the tools necessary to become thriving,
successful, well-rounded adults.

Pillar 1) Mindfulness

We emphasize mindfulness to help our students develop coping skills that will enable them to adapt to
today’s ever-changing world. We use a blend of yoga techniques, meditation, and physical activity to help
our students learn how to manage anxiety and stress. These skills promote mindfulness in and out of the
classroom and lay the foundation for lifelong health and wellness.

Pillar 2) Financial Literacy

We emphasize financial literacy to help our students develop the decision-making skills necessary to thrive
in our global market economy. We believe that every student should have a firm understanding of how
real-world money works, including basic economic principles, personal finance, budgeting, taxes, and the
global monetary system. We are proud of our entrepreneurship classes that use business plans and
investors presentations to give our students hands-on business experience and leadership skills.

Pillar 3) Life Skills

We emphasize life skills to help our students develop habits that are essential for self-reliance, confidence,
and personal gratification. We have an impressive program which includes an extensive culinary arts
portion that enables students to explore their imagination while also learning about science, math, food
safety, nutrition, and personal health. As an added benefit, our variety of themes help our students refine
their motor skills and their ability to listen and follow instructions.
Pillar 4) Service & Community
We emphasize service and community to help our students become good citizens and nurture a sense of
collegiality. We have a variety of community-improvement projects throughout the year that are planned
and implemented by our students. Our proximity to the heart of Eagle allows our students to engage with
the local community often and encourages ongoing involvement.

Pillar 5) Personal Responsibility

We emphasize personal responsibility to help our students learn critical decision-making skills. By teaching
our students to take ownership of their actions and identify consequences, we bolster self-confidence and
self-respect while fostering respect for others and the community. Our students are expected to clean up
after themselves and are assigned small tasks throughout the year. They receive a paycheck for their work
in “Kid Cash” that can be saved up and redeemed for purchases at the school store. Expectations from
classmates promote personal responsibility, and assigned tasks to help our students learn the value of hard
work, perseverance, and finding meaning in the mundane.

Innovate Academy and Preparatory School’s Core Subjects

We offer a challenging and diverse curriculum that includes math, science, literature, grammar, spelling,
creative writing, and history.

Math
We believe in the value of doing calculations by hand and use the Saxon math program, which is a proven
method for incremental learning of mathematics. We use a combination of one-on-one tutoring and group
lessons to engage students and ensure progress and retention of concepts. We also use accounting,
finance, and statistics as real-world applications to demonstrate the importance of computational skills to
our students.

Science
Our vast curriculum includes chemistry, biology, zoology, anatomy, and life sciences to help children
understand and appreciate the world around them. Our students enjoy hands-on experiments and out-of-
classroom experiences at local farms and discovery centers, which are used to teach important concepts
and foster a love for learning.

Literature
We believe in using literature to reinforce moral values and encourage our students to read advanced
books in order to grow and challenge themselves. We are passionate about creating a love of reading and
encourage our students to read a variety of genres, including fiction and non-fiction.

Grammar, Spelling, & Creative Writing
We believe in the importance of proper grammar and spelling because command over the English language
is essential for communication in today’s digital world. We also instill a rich vocabulary in our students
through creative writing assignments that ignite their imagination and expand their thinking.

History
We believe in the importance of understanding the past to build the future. We explore national and world
history many different ways including hands-on learning projects that put our students “in the shoes” of
important historical figures. We also encourage our students to examine their own family history to
promote awareness and self-reflection.
